Humans of Fan Culture
For this project, I dove into fan culture through 3 different interviews focusing on how people find connection, identity and community through their own experiences. The personal stories I collected gave me the oppportunity to go beyond surface level team or player fandom. I was able to see the deep rooted connection that shape routines, emotions and relationships. Each person I talked with had their own stories and perspective but the common ground was how it was all built on a foundation of comfort and togetherness.
Through the collecting and curating techniques I used, I was able to take each story and connect them through similar patterns. One of the biggest takeaways I had was that even though these behaviors seem small, they play a key role in community building. This project challenged my thinking — my perspective shifted from viewing fan culture as pure entertainment to grasping the ideas that it heavily influences identity and belonging.
Curators Note
This note explains the choices behind this project. I explained how I conducted my interviews, curated my main focus points, and my design choices.
Fan culture, it’s more than what you watch - it’s what you’re connected to. This semester showed me how some of the smallest moments can be the path to identity and community.
